the exhibition attracted 228,000 visitors

The 14th International Architecture Exhibition - Fundamentals came to a close on Sunday 23 November 2014. The show was organized by the Biennale di Venezia presided over by Paolo Baratta and curated by Rem Koolhaas who met on the closing weekend curators of national participations, exhibitors, and the world of architecture attending the event during the final days of the opening period.

The exhibition had a duration of six months and attracted 228,000 visitors, in addition to the 12,214 visitors who attended the preview; these figures cannot be compared with the 178,000 visitors in 2012 (10,408 during the preview) due to the three-month opening period that year.

The young and students represent 45% of overall visitors.
Students who visited the exhibition in groups represent 20% of the public attending.

The Italian Pavilion, organized by the Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali with the PaBAAC - Direzione Generale per il paesaggio, le belle arti, l’architettura e l’arte contemporanee, was curated by Cino Zucchi and presented an exhibition titled Innesti / Grafting.
The Venezia Pavilion at Giardini - promoted by the Venice City Council - hosted the exhibition, Sonnets in Babylon by Daniel Libeskind, curated by Renzo Dubbini, and commissioner Madile Gambier.

The 14th International Architecture Exhibition was opened on 7 June in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Dario Franceschini, followed by other institutional visits from Ministers and Ambassadors.

• The Promotional projects

This year the “Meetings on Architecture” took place all along the six-month duration of the Exhibition, featuring a thick calendar of events that animated the Arsenale Corderie where 7 stages had been set up for the meetings, divided into Weekend Specials (conferences and debates on specific subjects, documentaries and workshops, exhibitions and performances) and Freeport (talks organized by participating countries).

The project, Biennale Sessions - dedicated to Universities - had an extraordinary participation of foreign universities which resulted in a +59% increase compared to 2012. 120 universities joined in (+56% compared to 2012) of which 42 from Italy and 78 from abroad (in particular, 11 from Germany, 9 from the UK, 5 from Spain, and 5 from France); 5,700 university students from all over the world visited the Architecture Biennale 2014 as part of their curriculum.

There were 38,243 participants (1.912 groups) to Educational activities and guided visits, with an increase of 25% compared to 2012.
