55th International Art Exhibition (2013)

With a special day of events and meetings, the 55th International Art Exhibition – Il Palazzo Enciclopedico (The Encyclopedic Palace) – organized by la Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta and curated by Massimiliano Gioni, came to an end on Sunday 24th November 2013. Over 475,000 visitors with an increase of 8% (440,000 the total figure in 2011).
Young people and students represented 31.75% of total visitors. The students who visited the Exhibition in groups represented 21% of the public.

Artists / National Participations / Collateral Events

The Encyclopedic Palace was laid out in the Central Pavilion (Giardini) and in the Arsenale forming a single itinerary with works spanning over the past century alongside several new commissions, including over 150 artists from 37 countries. 88 National Participations were also exhibited; among these 10 countries participated for the first time. 47 Collateral Events were promoted by various organizations and exhibited in different venues around the city.

Biennale Sessions and Meetings on Art

The project, Biennale Sessions is aimed at Universities and Academies of Fine Arts that were provided with favourable conditions for a three-day visit for groups of at least 50 people comprising students and teachers. Moreover, the Biennale organized a program of Meetings on Art, a series of conversations, panels and talks on art-related subjects. The last meeting this year was Museums and Biennials on 24th November 2013.
