The Orchestra Haydn, conducted by Tito Ceccherini, with soloists Giulia Bolcato, Roberto Miele and Francesco D’Orazio takes on the lively concertante-style music by Augusta Read-Thomas and Brett Dean, the brilliant Anglo-Saxon protagonists of their generation.

In My Sky at Twilight – Songs of Passion and Love for soprano and chamber orchestra (2002), a cycle of lyric songs on the theme of love that conquers death, is based on texts by different authors, from Sappho to Pablo Neruda; the music, which may suggest the dimension of dreams, features two broad sections separated by an orchestral interlude. The title of Silver Chants the Litanies, in memoriam Luciano Berio for French horn and chamber orchestra (2003) is based on a poem by E.E. Cummings: the piece is a tribute to Berio and his art of remembering through the transformations of music that is rich in contrasting sections. The two pieces by Augusta Read Thomas will be heard in their new versions with orchestra. The six Electric Preludes (2011-2012) for electric six-string violin and strings by Brett Dean, inspired by various types of visual stimuli, compose a vivid kaleidoscope of expressive moods as they treat the texture, fragility and luminosity of sound.
