Institution of two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement, the first to be awarded to a director, the second to an actor or an actress
Orizzonti Awards to both an actor and an actress
Submission of films for the 74th Venice Film Festival starts 6th February
Venice Production Bridge from August 31st to September 4th
The Board of Directors of the Biennale di Venezia, chaired by Paolo Baratta, has approved the new Regulations for the 74th Venice International Film Festival, to be held on the Lido di Venezia from 30 August to 9 September 2017, directed by Alberto Barbera.
The Board has decided to institutionalize the decision to award two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement in all the future editions of the Venice Film Festival: the first will be awarded to directors or to personalities from the filmmaking sphere; the second to an actor or actress, that is to say, to personalities from the performance sphere.
The Director will therefore recommend to the President and to the Board of Directors to award two Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement: the first, awarded to a director (or an outstanding professional in his field) for the contribution made with his/her body of work to the development of the art of cinema; the second to an actor or actress who have best interpreted the expressive intent of the directors for whom they have worked, while bringing their own personal aesthetic, symbolic and original contribution to the art of acting.
For the Orizzonti section, the Award for Best Performance will be doubled to become awards for both Best Performance by an Actor, and Best Performance by an Actress.
Overall, the Orizzonti International Jury, composed of no more than 7 personalities from the worlds of cinema and culture from different countries, will therefore award the following prizes (with no joint awards permitted):
−  Orizzonti Award for Best Film
−  Orizzonti Award for Best Director
−  Special Orizzonti Jury Prize
−  Orizzonti Award for Best Actor
−  Orizzonti Award for Best Actress
−  Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay
−  Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film.
Submission of films for the 74th Venice Film Festival will open starting Monday February 6th on the official website
Also confirmed, as part of the Venice Film Festival, is the new Venice Production Bridge, the film market that not only ensures the continuity of the services developed in the past (Industry Club, European Gap Financing Market, Business Centre, Digital Video Library and Market Screenings), but is offered as a meeting ground and networking opportunity for all the categories of professionals involved in the making of films: producers, funders, distributors, sales, public and private investment funds, banks, film commissions, broadcasters, Internet platforms.
Within the context of the Co-production Market (31 August - 4 September), the Venice Production Bridge will present a wide selection of projects in an advanced phase of development and pre-funding in the categories of films, documentaries, Virtual reality, TV and web series. It will also organize the fifth edition of Final Cut in Venice (reserved for works-in-progress from African countries, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria), and the second edition of the Book Adaptation Rights Area.
