Italian films of the 69th Venice Film Festival 2012 characterize the fourth edition of the Festival of Italian Cinema: from Venice to Moscow, which starts tomorrow, Wednesday, March 6, in the Russian capital, organised by la Biennale di Venezia - chaired by Paolo Baratta - along with the Italian Institute of Culture of Moscow and the Italian Embassy in Moscow. The festival, which takes place in Moscow until March 12, will be then replicated also this year in St. Petersburgfrom March 16-22, 2013.

 

There are twelve Italian films from the Official Selection of the 69th Venice Film Festival - directed by Alberto Barbera - which will be presented at the prestigious Khudozhestvennyj Cinema in the Russian capital. In particular, three works of the Competition from Venice 69: È stato il figlio (The Son Did It) by Daniele Ciprì which opens the festival, Bella addormentata (Sleeping Beauty) by Marco Bellocchio, and Un giorno speciale (A Special Day) by Francesca Comencini. Also participating will be three works from the Orizzonti section: Gli equilibristi by Ivano De Matteo, L’intervallo by Leonardo Di Costanzo and La sala by Alessio Giannone, and six works Out of Competition: Clarisse by Liliana Cavani, Sfiorando il muro by Giralucci Silvia and Luca Ricciardi, Medici con l’Africa (Doctors with Africa) by Carlo Mazzacurati, Convitto Falcone by Pasquale Scimeca, La nave dolce (The Human Cargo) by Daniele Vicari, and Come voglio che sia il mio futuro by Maurizio Zaccaro. There will also be presented La città ideale by Luigi Lo Cascio from the independent section, the International Critics’ Week.

 

At the end of the series in Moscow, on Tuesday, March 12, Marco Bellocchio will hold a master class at VGIK, the Russian State University for cinematography.

 

The guests of the initiative in Moscow will also include: Giselda Volodi (È stato il figlio), Pasquale Scimeca and Linda Di Dio (Convitto Falcone), Silvia Giralucci (Sfiorando il muro), and Ivano De Matteo (Gli equilibristi). In St. Petersburg, Luigi Lo Cascio (La città ideale) will attend.

 

Similar initiatives have been undertaken in recent years by la Biennale di Venezia for the promotion of Italian cinema worldwide: in 2005 in Brazil, in 2009 in China and recently in Korea with the series Venice in Seoul, which took place between December 2012 and January 2013.
