at the Arsenale, the Biennale lion plays and sings during Carnival
La Biennale di Venezia
, chaired by Paolo Baratta
, announces the 6th International Kids’ Carnival
of the Biennale, titled At the Arsenale, the Biennale Lion plays and sings during Carnival,
to be held from Saturday 7
to Tuesday 17 February in Venice, for the first time entirely at the Arsenale (Sale d’Armi
, every day from 10 am to 6 pm). Participating in the Carnival will be foreign Countries and Institutions, schools and national and local cultural groups.
7 > 17 February
“This year we all go to the Arsenale, stated President Paolo Baratta. The completion of significant restoration work, and in particular the construction of new heated spaces (the Sale d’Armi) make it possible for us to hold the projects and activities of the Kids’ Carnival inside our own spaces at the Arsenale.
Part of the activities will take place at the Arsenale Corderie where some of the installations of the Architecture Biennale have been left in place, forming a small amphitheatre in which some of the Dance Music and Theatre performances were held. Many activities will take place inside the pavilions at the Sale d’Armi, the permanent exhibition spaces of several Countries which have kindly lent us their spaces for this occasion.
If these Countries have become involved by granting us the use of these spaces, other Countries will be active participants in the Carnival as usual, and this year they include Germany, Poland, Romania, Hungary, United States, Turkey and Bolivia.
Last year the inspiration was Dance, this year it is Music with projects by Conservatories and Music Schools that will enrich a festival dedicated primarily to involving kids in the work of creation, playing music and performing with instruments and with the body.
The point is to combine an approach based on having fun with a goal that is always highly educational: another expression of the remarkable commitment by the Biennale Educational sector. And to the schools that are signing up in ever increasing numbers to participate in this event (150 this year!), we would like to extend our most affectionate thanks”.
· School Mornings: workshops, sounds and songs
· The Magnificents: workshops, sounds and songs organized by the 19 Schools selected throughout Italy and Austria
· The Countries: workshops, sounds and songs of Germany, Poland, Romania, Hungary, United States, Turkey and Bolivia
· The Institutions: workshops, sounds and songs by the Conservatorio Benedetto Marcello of Venice, the Conservatorio Agostino Steffani of Castelfranco Veneto, the Conservatorio "Francesco Antonio Bonporti" of Trento, the World Food Programme (WFP) – United Nations Agency, UNICEF, and social cooperatives (Il Cerchio Onlus).
The activities are all free of charge; some require reservations, others are open to anyone.
The International Kids’ Carnival at the Arsenale takes place this year with the specific commitment of the Music section of the Biennale (Artistic Director: Ivan Fedele), and features musical performances by Italian Youth Orchestras and Music Conservatories in the Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige regions (Music Special).
For all families, there will be a creative costume-making workshop to make rapid accessories using fabrics, paper and simple or recycled materials.
In addition to the traditional Treasure Hunt for families, the sixth edition of the Carnival will feature new bodily expression workshops dedicated to parents and children.
As usual the inauguration day (7 February) will also present the awards ceremony for the Silver Lion for Creativity Competition for Italian Schools.
The International Kids’ Carnival is an important Educational Project of the Biennale now in its sixth edition, and addressed to young people, schools and families. Its intent is to stimulate the creativity and participation of young people in workshops, competitions, mask and costume-making, encouraging their personal participation and commitment.
There will be nurseries, discount rates for class participation, with free Biennale Carnival Buses and Vaporetti for the Schools (upon reservation). For the public, there will be a Biennale Carnevale Vaporetto.
During the International Kids’ Carnival, there will be guided tours of the Arsenale for organized groups and individual visitors, which will illustrate the monumental and historical spaces, and the recent restoration and renovation projects.
