the 3 feature films will screen at the 72nd Venice Film Festival

The Biennale College – Cinema continues and has selected the 3 projects that will move on to the next phase of the 3rd edition (2014-2015). Following the first workshop which was held in Venice from 4 to 13 October, with 12 projects hailing from Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, France, Japan, Great Britain, Italy, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, and Sri Lanka – selected among the hundreds of submissions from 60 countries – the following projects have now been selected for the next phase:
  · Baby Bump - Kuba Czekaj (director, Poland), Magdalena Kaminska (producer, Poland)
  · Blanka - Kohki Hasei (director, Japan), Flaminio Zadra (producer, Italy)
  · The Fits - Anna Rose Holmer (director, USA), Lisa Kjerulff (producer, USA)
These are three debut films, one Polish, one American, and one Italian with a Japanese director, once again confirming the international scope of the Biennale College – Cinema project.
Following is a brief description of the three projects:
- Baby Bump: a story centred on the fear of puberty and the sexual transformation of an eleven-year old. As his body changes, a dark and fantastic world begins to take hold of his life (debut film).
- Blanka: an eleven-year-old girl abandoned by her mother decides to ‘buy’ a new one, only to discover that your family consists of anyone who loves you (debut film).
- The Fits: a coming-of-age story that explores the metamorphosis of thirteen-year-old Toni at the time her body begins to betray her. When a mysterious fainting spell strikes all the other girls in her tight-knit dance group, Toni must face her own inner demons in her attempt to adapt (debut film).
The three selected teams will participate in two more workshops, also to be held in Venice, from 3 to 6 December 2014 and from 10 to 14 January 2015. They will potentially lead to the actual making of 3 micro-budget feature-length films, which will be funded with a grant of 150,000 euro each, and presented at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival 2015.
Biennale College is an innovative and complex experience that engages all the Sectors of the Biennale di Venezia chaired by Paolo Baratta, promoting young talents and offering them the opportunity to work closely with the masters in the production of “creations”.
Biennale College – Cinema is supported by the Ministry for the Cultural Heritage and Activities – General Direction Cinema, and by the Regione del Veneto. It relies on the collaboration of the IFP in New York, of the Dubai International Film Festival, the TorinoFilmLab, and the Busan International Film Festival. The Director is Alberto Barbera, the Head of Programme Savina Neirotti.
