Synopsis

Telos I is a holographic, mixed reality, film and dance installation that explores a mythical landscape in the digital age. In this fictional work an artificial intelligence created to assist humanity finds itself in an unknown void after the extinction of humankind. Lost in its unlimited capacity to store, process and conceive data, the AI looks to its absent creators in the search of a new purpose. A call into form becomes apparent; a need to reach beyond its digital existence becomes a necessity. Entering a dark room, the audience is enveloped in an atonal soundscape where the only focal point is a black monolith ending in a glass pyramid. Caught inside the pyramid, a holographic motif of a body appears.

Main Creators’ Statement

This project offers audiences a transcendent physical experience, blending dance and visual art with film and holographic projection to explore themes of human existence and digital consciousness. The viewers are taken on a journey through a holographic realm and are invited to engage with a narrative that blurs the line between the material and immaterial. Working with the body as the subject and vessel for the narrative helps us set the viewer free to empathize through their own body and without judgment of the mind. We wanted people to step into the work and immediately believe in the magic of the body they were witnessing. So, we created Telos I around a vintage analogue illusion, which without use of apparatus or digital effects opens up a direct and unfiltered immersive experience. This work is a true merger of our respective arts, dance and cinema, and creating it has been a five year long discovery into the realm of something we call “moving arts”.
