Humanity is complex and full of diversity. Architects may design a building to serve a certain specific need and functions. But in reality, the intended aspirations may not be the ultimate destiny of these creations. As the control changes hands from architects to the real users, demands and conditions may evolve, leaving the users a liberty to use or customise the original design as they see fit. As a result, new relationships between people and architecture are established. Inspired by the title of a film by the acclaimed Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Blissfully Yours talks about the life of spaces after the designers have happily handed over the authorship to users. Told through the medium of documentaries, hand-drawn animations and photography across ten projects, the exhibition exemplifies the interaction between people and space in Thai society. The results of which could be perfect or disappointing. But above all, they are fascinating stories of the synergy between people and the built environment.
