The International Festival of Contemporary Music was established in 1930 and was the first festival to run alongside the International Art Exhibition, that had seen the birth of the Biennale back in 1895. Over the years, the Festival presented world premieres by Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Nono, and its tradition has been renewed since October 2020 under the directorship of Lucia Ronchetti.
Through the International Festival of Contemporary Music, the Biennale di Venezia stresses its central role in the panorama of music today. Since 1930, the Festival has featured new compositions, European and world premieres, great orchestras and prestigious ensembles and soloists, confirming the Festival’s mission for research and the attention to new trends.
