Educational Programme

La Biennale di Venezia’s educational programme includes education proposals addressed to the audiences of its Exhibitions and Festivals, such as university students and faculty members, schools, families, art and architecture lovers and beyond.

In the past two years, Biennale Architettura 2023 and Biennale Arte 2024 had 131.509 participants in Education activities, amongst whom 72,125 were young people. These figures show that education activities are appreciated and essential for different types of audiences.

A broad Educational programme will be offered in 2025 as well, addressing itself to individuals and groups of students, children, adults, families, professionals, companies, and universities. All these initiatives aim to an actively involve participants. They are conducted by professional operators, carefully trained by La Biennale, and they fall under the following categories: Guided Itineraries and Workshop Activities and Interactive Initiatives.

The initiatives

Guided Itineraries lead visitors through the exhibition venues of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition and have an open and participatory structure; they are particularly suited to high-schools, universities, architecture lovers, and adults. They are available in three formats: guided tours, focus tours, and theme-based visits.

Workshop Activities and Interactive Initiatives are addressed to all kinds of audiences, with particular attention to young and very young visitors and schools; Workshop Activities are based upon stimulating and interactive approaches, triggering creativity and children’s capacity to elaborate the contents of their experiences. Workshop Activities are available in three versions: digital workshops, multidisciplinary workshops, delving into the languages of architecture, music, dance, and theatre; science-based workshops, theoretical and practical workshops, which stimulate creativity with hands-on activities, and interactive activities for families.

The projects

La Biennale’s Educational offer is further enriched by special projects, focusing upon the challenges of creativity and innovation, offering the opportunity to approach the Exhibition themes from specific professional perspectives. Such projects are particularly suited to companies, professionals, and scholars, and they focus upon the Exhibition themes as opportunities to update and extend visitors’ competences and sensibilities.

Inclusive activities, with the active involvement of educational or therapeutic communities, will be available in 2025 too, with the goal of approaching visitors usually less involved in the enjoyment of exhibitions and cultural events. Education activities will also be available in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and for visitors who are blind.

Accessibility of contents and themes will be enhanced by formats and tools in easy-to-read language.

Activities will be available in Italian and in at least six foreign languages (including English, French, German, Spanish, and Russian) and will be conducted by professional staff. Reservation is required. Average duration is 1h45’.

For schools from the Veneto Region, La Biennale organises a special service, with a reservation and subject to limited availability, with free transportation services from school venues to Venice, by Biennale BUS, and a Biennale water shuttle service, to Giardini and Arsenale.

Special free Open Days for teachers from all school grades shall be organised by La Biennale, on 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 September. Open days include a presentation of education activities related also to Biennale Musica (11>25 October 2025). Open days start at 1.30pm and include a visit of the Exhibition venues (Giardini and Arsenale).

La Biennale’s Educational initiatives are realised also thanks to the contribution of F.I.L.A. Fabbrica Italiana Lapis e Affini SpA, whose Tratto PEN is the Official Pencil of the Biennale Architettura’s 2025 Education activities.
