Meredith Monk / The House
Meredith Monk also made her first appearance in Italy at the invitation of Luca Ronconi for the historic Laboratorio internazionale in 1975. Considered a pioneer of multimedia, her tableau composed of sounds, words, movements find expression in Education of the Girlchild, a dream sequence conjured in a woman’s mind, and in Quarry, a work about the Holocaust relived in the hallucinations of a little girl. A dancer, choreographer, composer, instrumentalist and filmmaker, Monk made a deep impression on the spectators with her distinctive vocal modulation, which was destined to influence the evolution of song as much as composers such as Stockhausen.
