The 77th Venice International Film Festival is organised by La Biennale di Venezia and was held on the Lido di Venezia from 2 to 12 September 2020. The Festival is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association).

The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. In addition to the sections mentioned in the following paragraphs, the Festival also organises retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.

The line-up includes the following sections: Venezia 77, Out of Competition, Orizzonti, and Biennale College - Cinema.

The autonomous and parallel sections, whose line-up is selected in accordance with their own regulations, include the Settimana Internazionale della Critica and the Giornate degli Autori.

There are 4 Juries at the 77th Venice International Film Festival:
Venezia 77, Orizzonti, “Luigi De Laurentiis” Award for a Debut Film, and Venice Virtual Reality.
