Artists

This section focuses on the production of four subjects: the queer artist, often persecuted or outlawed; the outsider artist, located at the margins of the art world; the self-taught artist, the folk artist and the artista popular; the indigenous artist, frequently treated as a foreigner in their own land. 110 artists are featured in this section.

First section of the Nucleo Storico: in the Central Pavilion at Giardini, one room is devoted to portraits and representations of the human figure. This section features works by 111 artists.

Second section of the Nucleo Storico: in the Central Pavilion at Giardini, one room is devoted to an abstraction that detaches itself from the European constructivist geometric tradition, in order to privilege more organic, curvilinear shapes. It features works by 37 artists.

Third section of the Nucleo Storico: at the Arsenale Corderie, one room is devoted to Italian artists who travelled and moved abroad developing their careers in Africa, Asia, Latin America, in the rest of Europe and the USA. It features works by 40 artists.

La Biennale di Venezia with the Victoria and Albert Museum present the artist Beatriz Milhazes.
