Description

Dance and technology. How far can the boundaries of the human body be pushed in the era of artificial intelligence? This is the inspiring theme of WAVES, which choreographer Cheng Tsung-lung and digital artist Daito Manabe created for the fiftieth anniversary of the Taiwanese company Cloud Gate. Famous in Asia and around the world for combining meditative and oriental movement practices with the study of Western dance, Cloud Gate looks to the future experimenting with the possibilities of artificial intelligence, staging the dialogue between twelve dancers and their digital avatars.

Everything in the show is generated by the body, even the music, produced using the physiological signals of the dancers recorded through sensors. The result is a "pure" physical language generated by transforming movement into digital data. A unique immersive experience, WAVES washes over the audience like a wave, stunning them.
