Director's statement
How do the exhausted yawns of women transform into the monstrous roars of demonic spirits in the eyes of men? Is all this merely a dream conjured by their own insecurities, or is it a reality they refuse to face? When I first encountered the legend of the Poison Cat from the south-western region of China, I was deeply captivated. Through retelling this ancient legend, I aim to reveal the hidden phenomenon of the “demonisation of women” in China. Behind this demonisation lies an unspoken, profound fear among men—a fear of losing power amid shifting gender norms and the rising tide of female empowerment.
