Synopsis

Jasmine, 40, seemingly has it all: a devoted husband, three loving sons, and a thriving hair salon right near her childhood home south of Naples. However, after her father’s death, her world is turned upside down by a recurring dream in which a young girl runs into her arms, leaving Jasmine with a profound sense of completeness. After a period of agonizing reflection, Jasmine decides she must find the girl from her dream. She dives head first into the complex world of international adoption. This decision risks her marriage, her sons’ stability, and her own moral compass. Vittoria explores the intricate dynamics of family and the seemingly irrational desires that drive the human psyche. Based on true events, the film features the real individuals who lived through this experience, capturing their story with a distinctive cinematic style.

Directors’ Statement

When Jasmine told us her story, we both looked at each other and knew we had a film. Here was a woman consumed by a deep desire that everyone around her deemed irrational. But was it? Is it wrong to be driven by heart and instinct rather than by reason? We set out to explore these questions within the little-known world of international adoption—a labyrinth navigated by aspiring parents in a heightened emotional state as they pursue their wish for a child. The stakes are high, even existential. It was clear from the onset that Jasmine and her husband could portray their own story, allowing us to blend real-life experience with classic dramaturgy. However, we hadn’t anticipated that the mise en scène would become a space where our protagonists could confront their unaddressed resentments. This raw authenticity, captured on camera, not only proved rewarding for us as directors but also elevated the emotional experience for the audience.
