Description
The Greenhouse exhibition space facilitates experimentation and reflection and is grounded in four actions: GARDEN (Installation, Space and Time), LIVING ARCHIVE (Movement, Sound and Performance), SCHOOLS (Education, History and Revolution), ASSEMBLIES (Public and Communities). Greenhouse merges sculpture, stage, installation and assembly spaces into a “Creole garden” at Palazzo Franchetti. The curatorial and artistic team – a visual artist, a researcher and a choreographer – organises collective actions, using pedagogy, sound and movement, to reflect on the relationship between nature, ecology and politics. Challenging curatorial hegemonies by bridging dichotomies between curators and artists, thought and practice, human and nature, the garden becomes a space for diversity and interaction. Greenhouse asks how soil, land, and borders connect with contemporary politics of the body, particularly the migrant body. It explores how integrating the land into processes of liberation and self-discovery can foster ecologies of care. Greenhouse centres soil as a transversal element that carries not only the memory of geomorphological transformations, but also the violence of Empire, the traces of those who passed through it, and their stories of resistance, difference and liberation.
