Day of the Fight
Synopsis
On the day of his first fight since leaving prison, Mikey, a once celebrated boxer, takes a redemptive journey through his past and present, putting his own life at risk due to a medical condition only he knows about. Over the course of the day, Mikey visits influential figures from his life, encouraging him to overcome his checkered past. After a fight for the ages at Madison Square Garden, a twist of events reveals that this day was never really about boxing for Mikey. This is an underdog story built on introspection, self-sacrifice, and forgiveness which asks the question: how far are we willing to go for the ones we love?
Director’s Statement
Day of the Fight is an underdog story in its purest form. I conceived the movie as an almost tragic fairy tale, aspiring to capture a whole life in a day—the love, pain, regret, happiness, and anguish, yet somehow remaining hopeful. I’ve always been drawn to underdog stories—they so perfectly reflect the truths of life: adversity, fear, doubt, desire. In the film, our lead character Mikey is our underdog, grasping for a second chance to be better for those that he loves. An honest and often brutal look at the human experience—it’s a story about sacrifice, redemption, and ultimately forgiveness. Making this film has been a true labour of love, and I’m honoured to be able to share it.
