Maria Chiara De’ Nobili (Italy), Ezgi Gungor (Turkey) and Rebecca Jensen (New Zealand) are the choreographers under the age of 32 selected this year by Marie Chouinard, to present three free original creations lasting about twenty minutes each at the 2018 Festival.
After a preliminary session focused on the creative process of a master, who this year is the Director of the Dance Department herself, Marie Chouinard, the three choreographers worked for six weeks on their own creations with seven French and Italian dancers (one of whom attended the College – Dancers 2017), with advanced technique and stage experiences in contact with many choreographers.
During the various phases of research, elaboration and development of their creations, the authors of the 2018 College – Choreographers worked with professionals such as Isabelle Poirier, maître de ballet of the Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Guy Cools for the dramaturgy, Simone Derai for the direction and Catherine Schaub Abkarian, an actress and dancer, and expert in Western and Oriental theatre (Bread and Puppet, Ariane Mnouchkine, Akram Khan), who served for the College Dance – Choreographers as the “independent eye” the authors need for an informed and conscious examination of their own works.
