Composers - New work for solo piano

Biennale College Musica 2024
Composers for solo piano (25’ - 35’)

The selection is dedicated to young composers interested in writing a new work for solo piano without electronics or amplification. The pianist Bertrand Chamayou will perform the new composition during the Biennale Musica (September 26 - October 10,  2024) as a world premiere.

The workshop in Venice will consist of different stages. The first stage will be dedicated to the conception of the work, the instrumental dramaturgy and the experimentation of different instrumental techniques. Classes will also focus on traditional and recent piano compositions, their specific notation and the instrumental treatment. The composition of the first draft of the new piece will be followed by the second stage of the workshop, which will be concerned with the evaluation of the compositional ideas and their performability.

The different tutors will interact with the selected composer in order to support him/her for the ideation, composition and for the realisation of the new work.

The Biennale College Musica team will be in contact with the selected composer throughout the whole process of composition (from March 2024 to September 2024) and will be available for suggestions and revisions of the new score.
