Biennale Cinema 2018 - Publications on sale online

The official catalogue of the 75th Venice International Film Festival presents the films of the Biennale Cinema 2018 in 360 pages. For each movie, in addition to the technical features, the catalogue contains the synopsis, the director's statement and biography, both in Italian and English. It also includes a portrait of the director and some frames, in black and white or in color, from the films. The catalogue's structure follows the subdivision into 8 sections of the Festival, from Venezia 75 to Fuori Concorso, from Orizzonti to Venezia Classici, from the Biennale College Cinema productions to the Venice Virtual Reality section. Introductions signed by President Paolo Baratta and Director Alberto Barbera open the book.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Venice International Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia published the volume Happy 75° – A Brief Introduction to the History of the International Film Festival, entrusting film historian Peter Cowie with the task to outlining a history of the Festival, concise as much as precious. Using archive materials, press reviews, interviews and historical publications, the English journalist developed in seven chapters, featuring photographs, an introduction to the events of the Festival, retracing, with a documentary attitude, transformations, setbacks and rebirths, year after year, from the institution in 1932 up to the present day.

Celebrating the 75th Venice International Film Festival, La Biennale di Venezia organised the exhibition Il Cinema in Mostra – Volti e immagini dalla Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica 1932 - 2018, set up in the historic Hotel des Bains at Lido di Venezia, reopened to the public for the occasion.
The catalogue is a story by images, a touching scrapbook of the oldest and most prestigious film festival in the world, a collection of posters, film frames, vintage photographs that immortalise the stars, the public and the iconic places of the Festival, from Palazzo del Cinema to Hotel Excelsior. The book follows each edition, from 1932, the year of the first International Exhibition of Cinematographic Art, passing through the First and Second World Wars, to the protests of the Sixties; from the profound changes implemented by the 1998 reform until today. It's a catalogue that not only relives the moments of the Biennale Cinema, but which brings to life the most recent history of Italy and its passion for the seventh art.
