Ukrainian Day

On Wednesday 6 September 2023, the 80th Venice International Film Festival will host a Ukrainian Day to reaffirm La Biennale di Venezia’s solidarity with Ukraine and its people in view of the tragedy they are enduring. This is a continuation of the Ukrainian Day that was held at the Lido in 2022 and the initiatives organized on the occasion of the Biennale Arte 2022 and the ongoing Biennale Architettura 2023 at the Giardini and the Arsenale venues.

The events organized to celebrate the Ukrainian Day on Wednesday 6 September will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at the Venice Production Bridge's Spazio Incontri (Hotel Excelsior, Venice Lido) and will focus both on the present and future situation of Ukraine's film industry within the context that is impacting the country's entire population, and on strategies to foster support and cooperation.

At the first encounter (10-11 a.m.), entitled The Ukrainian Film Industry During the War, following the greetings and introduction by the President of the Biennale, Roberto Cicutto, and the Director of the 80th Festival, Alberto Barbera, the  Head of the Ukrainian State Film Agency, Marina Kuderchuk, will take the floor. The moderator will be Volodymyr Ostapchuk.

At the second encounter (11 a.m. - noon), entitled Filming With Ukraine: Support and Cooperation, the speakers will be Artem Kolyubaev (Head of the Cinematography Council, producer), Viktoria Yarmoshchuk (Head of the Ukrainian Motion Picture Association, producer), Serhiy Lavrenyuk (Head of the Ukrainian Film Industry Association, producer), Andriy Nogin (Head of the NGO UkrKinoFest, producer), and Philippe Azoulay (director). The encounter will be moderated by Volodymyr Ostapchuk.
