In these Elegy performances (60’), seven opera singers perform a ritual lament, invoking the absent presence of individuals displaced and killed in the Ovaherero and Nama Genocide. Each performance is accompanied by a speculative reflection, scripted by scholar-activist Dr Zoé Samudzi. Crossing lines of history, geography and difference, the call to mourn those lost to the genocidal colonial project in Namibia could not be more urgent, as we seek to account for and transform present conditions of differentially valued life.
