Short micro-budget chamber operas selected via an international call. World premiere on Friday 6th October, Teatro Piccolo Arsenale.
"The theme of the Orient is an important red thread that binds many of the concerts in the programme – says Director Ivan Fedele. A red thread that unfurls along the deep furrows of a tradition that remains vibrant and suffuses the creative paths of many of the most representative authors of that ample region that embraces China, Korea and Japan. Authors whose relationship with the West has been one of frequentation or even of union".
This year the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement was presented to Tan Dun, one of the composers most representative of the creativity born in the East that has so intensely engaged with and indeed bonded with the West.
The Silver Lion award was presented to Japanese composer Dai Fujikura, who has been living for several years in the UK and is now considered a significant personality in the music of our time.
