Biennale College Teatro / Gaetano Palermo - Swan
Description
Swan is a site-specific performance inspired by The Dying Swan, the solo piece that Michel Fokine choreographed in 1901 for Anna Pavlova, the prima ballerina of the Mariinsky Ballet. This provides the starting point for a piece that goes beyond traditional definitions of dance and theatre, employing sport as its theme both formally and conceptually. In Swan, reality and fiction combine, bringing about a disturbing displacement of the everyday in the urban environment. The audience, whether willing spectators or casual passers-by, are invited to stumble upon this vision of overflowing humanity which questions, in a public space, their role as agents and observers of reality. The street becomes the stage for an impersonal drama, for a crisis as universal as it is solitary.
