Synopsis
The Brutalist chronicles the journey of Hungarian-born Jewish architect, László Tóth, who emigrates to the United States of America in 1947. Initially forced to toil in poverty, he soon wins a contract that will change the course of the next 30 years of his life.
Director’s Statement
When drafting a formal statement or note of intent, it’s customary to elaborate on a project’s themes/aesthetic, but following the better part of a decade spent revving the engine to bring this particular story to life, I would instead like to take the opportunity here to thank each and every one of the collaborators that made the “impossible movie” possible. My cast, my crew, my family—words are not enough.
It is an honour and a privilege to bring The Brutalist to audiences at the 81st Venice Film Festival in 70mm.
