Synopsis

On an elegant yacht cruising off the sun- drenched coast of Sardinia, a beautiful and aggressive woman expounds her usual contradictory views as a privileged left-wing liberal. The Sicilian sailor on board listens with seething hatred and indignation at his employer’s arrogance. But fate is about to drastically overturn events and weave a completely different scenario when on an afternoon swim, the two are carried away by a violent current and only find safety on a deserted island. In this extreme situation where the sailor, well-versed in the vital law of survival, becomes the dominant force in the relationship, and his previous “master” is relegated to a humiliating dependency and subservience, the woman is slowly aroused by feelings of brutal desire. As the real world and its concerns as she had always known them recede ever more into the distance, and this new physical passion becomes the only meaningful existing reality, she willingly succumbs to the man, as his slave, and to the ecstasy of their violent lovemaking.

Director's Statement

I’ve never made a comedy in my life. My films are “grotesque”. The word grotesque derives its first meaning from those bizarre sculptures that were formed in caves [...], the term was then extended to everything that is deformed in reality. For this reason, in my films, I use the grotesque key which allows me to accentuate certain characters, to draw them with a more marked and ironic line. Which has nothing to do with comedy or the comedic.
