Biennale College Teatro 2022
Site-specific performance
The Biennale Teatro intends to promote the call for site-specific performances in 2022 as well.
Consistent with the launch of the call for Italian directors under 35 and Italian authors under 40, the Biennale Teatro continues its efforts to give voice and visibility to those working in the theatre scene, while remaining faithful to its educational mission.
This is a call for an unpublished performance work outdoors, in Venetian campi - places of everyday life in the lagoon - that will be chosen by the artistic direction.
In the attempt to construct a performative gesture in the social perimeters of everyday life, the theatrical event will be placed in vital spaces, reviving the sense of community that art must be able to bring to its citizens.
Considering the great interest that performative authorship arouses today in the rest of the world, so deeply connected with Visual Arts, Music and Dance, La Biennale di Venezia believes it is important and necessary to invite international artists to confront themselves with a scenic writing, such as the site-specific performative one, able to tell the facets of the Contemporary.
The call is open to Italian and foreign performers (+18 and under 40 years of age). Those wishing to participate must not be older than 40 years on the deadline of the call (17 January 2022). The call for proposals is open to performers who propose one of their own creations (in any language or in the absence of a language) that has never made its debut, neither in studio form nor in complete form.
The theme, in line with the concept of the 2022 event, will be Red meant as:
Red is the crime perpetrated. It is the metamorphosis of passion. It is violence, moral deafness in the name of a personal god. It is the trampling of dignity.
Red is also resistance, the responsibility to look at the world no longer as an innocent and parasitic act. Red is not intended as a stop but rather as a conscious action.
The number of people involved in the project (artistic and technical staff) may vary from 1 to a maximum of 4. The performance must be suitable and conceived for an outdoor environment and can only involve the use of audio, costumes and small equipment.
